In spite of St. Patrick’s Cathedral’s ongoing renovation and preservation, the building is still a must see attraction during your stay at The Palace. The Cathedral was designed by architect James Renwick, Jr. and the cornerstone was placed in 1858. The imposing white marble structure was erected in the Gothic Revival style and encompasses an entire city block. Over time, the stone façade deteriorated and the stained glass windows lost their luster. Fortunately, over the course of three centuries, various generations have contributed to the architecture, bringing new life to the aging structure. Today, the impressive bronze doors at the entrance have been restored and stained glass windows first crafted in England, France and Boston are vibrant once more, inviting visitors to marvel at their beauty.
