Five Millennia of Exquisite Art and Antiques at the 65th Annual Winter Show

As a new year dawns on the world’s most inspiring and dynamic city, the Lotte New York Palace is pleased to bring to your attention what is widely hailed as the premier annual antiques show in the nation. Now in its 65th year, the Winter Show (formerly the Winter Antiques Show) runs from January 18 – 27 at the historic Park Avenue Armory in Manhattan’s Upper East Side. As the name change implies, calling this event an antiques show is slightly reductive. According to newly-appointed Executive Director Helen Allen, “To say we’re an antiques fair when we’re representing antiquity through present day doesn’t give weight to all of our other exhibitors that are exhibiting in different eras.” In fact, the 68 elite and emerging dealers who display at the show will present works of fine and decorative art spanning five millennia, right up to the present day. Dealers’ meticulously-wrought displays often focus on a main period while interspersing items from other eras in order to create provocative continuity—whether in terms of materials, shape, color, subject matter, artistic intent, or otherwise—across a broad temporal range. Better still, proceeds from this highly-anticipated 10-day event benefit East Side House Settlement, a philanthropic organization that works to improve educational opportunities for impoverished and underserved communities in the Bronx and Northern Manhattan.
