Italian Influences: Part 2

A few weeks ago, we posted about The New York Palace’s Italian Influences, highlighting our design team’s trip to Italy to find custom marble pieces for our Towers Lobby area. We wanted to follow-up with our readers and showcase the progress of the lobby and the Italian marble.

When the design team returned from Italy a couple of months ago, they had purchased over 9,000 square feet of marble. Of course, they couldn’t bring it all back in their suitcases, so it was packed up by the manufacturers and transported on cargo ships to New York. Earlier this week, numerous wooden crates carrying the precious stone were delivered to The Palace.

When the crates were delivered, our team from Shawmut, a construction management company, started to prep the foundation and lay the pieces.

In the pictures below, the marble appears to be a few large pieces of stone, but a closer look reveals that each color of the marble is its own individual piece. The team has to place each section together like a puzzle to create the shapes you see below.

Although our lobby upgrades are still in progress, we wanted to give our readers a behind-the-scenes look at what is to come. Stay tuned!
